I followed the directions here and got everything set to "general", redid my formula, hit enter. I knew my problem had to be an easy fix, but I didn't think I'd find it so soon. When several cells with text numbers are selected on the sheet, the Status Bar only shows Count, while usually it shows Average, Count and SUM for numbers. I was able to solve the problem which was driving me crazy. I have followed various recommendations including checking that formulas are set to calculate automatically. I've ensured my formatting is set to General.
