Windows support did point me to another thread from a few years ago reporting this same error message. I think it probably ran the program with the wrong user permissions, idk. Well, I'm certainly glad I didn't update my media center pc to Windows 7! Windows Media Center is a multifunctional program mainly used to play back DVDs nowadays but also capable of playing Blu-ray discs, videos, music in popular formats, watch, pause and record HDTV, I've also turned the WMP and WMC features off, restarted then back on again...no luck. In Windows 7 it looks like I can turn the feature (Windows Media Center or Windows Media Player) on or off but that doesn't actually remove the program itself.

In case of "Media Player not support codec" error, here is the Windows 10 help for downloading Windows Media Player codec pack (MP4, AVI, MKV, H.265, etc). Click OK again, and restart the computer. Then last Saturday, (Oct. 11th) I got the decoder error message and the sound would not play through my surround sound speakers. If downloading please save rather than run.
Whenever we try to play any movie DVD / CD in Windows Media Player or in Windows Media Center we get the same error message.
