This is often all you need to do if you've had the game on your current machine before, but it's not the be all and end all. I got KOTOR a while back and could never get it to work reliably so I had to give up on it.

Set your Screen Resolution in Windows to the "recommend" for the monitor/video card and THEN go into the Game and set the Screen Resolution to MATCH your Windows resolution - same Choose Properties from the menu and go to the Compatibility tab.
